A day in the life of an Affinity Water technician
Meet Alex Harvey
What’s your job title?
Production Technician Apprentice.
Where do you work?
I’m based in Brett and work at Horsley Cross treatment site.
How long have you worked at Affinity Water?
I have worked for Affinity Water for 3 and a ½ years.
Tell us about your role – what does a normal day’s work include?
As a production technician apprentice, my day consists of meeting at Horsley Cross first thing and chatting with the standby technician to see if they’ve had any problems/call outs. I then look to plan my day through AMIS which involves carrying out maintenance across the Brett area.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I really enjoy working with the team and tackling different problems on a day to day basis. I love my job because it varies so much! For example, I could be responsible for the unloading of a chemical delivery at Horsley Cross. Whereas, other days I could be working on a mechanical breakdown or even fixing an electrical fault.
If you could swap jobs with anyone here for the day who would it be and why?
I think it would be the water quality team to see the varieties of water treatment processes and how the water is analysed to ensure its safe for our customers.
Alex is now a qualified Production Technician.
